This is the central stone sculpture in the garden of the Chinese Sex Museum because it reflects the ancient Chinese’s main idea of sex: sex is to carry on the family name. This sculpture presents a smiling old man with a beard bearing his grandson. The man is very glad since he has offspring. How to carry on the family name? This big penis is the key.
There is a tortoise carved on this big penis since the Chinese word for the tip of the penis sounds the same as the word for turtle. It also represents long life.
There are three functions regarding sex: happiness, health care, and procreation. However, the Chinese people in ancient times ignored the first two functions and even denied them. They thought sex was only for making more and more babies, which is clearly indicated by this sculpture.
